Scheduled track works in eastern Sweden in 2018

It's a busy schedule for railway maintenance and extensions in eastern Sweden. The Swedish Transport Administration will be investing billions over the coming years in addressing track capacity and quality issues. Unfortunately, this investment also means sections of the rail network must be partially or completely shut down during certain periods.

Major track works in 2018:

Bålsta–Stockholm

Affected line: Hallsberg–Västerås–Stockholm

The Swedish Transport Administration is expanding the railway between Kallhäll and Tomeboda in order to make it easier for people to take the train. In a bid to disrupt travellers as little as possible, plans include a few longer shutdowns rather than numerous small disruptions.

Scheduled shutdowns:

  • Friday, 13 July – Sunday, 5 August
Trains will be replaced by bus. Travel time will be prolonged by approximately 30 minutes.

In order to make the connection in Bålsta, buses will depart Stockholm Central and Sundbyberg earlier than the trains' usual departure time. You will find the timetable for trains and buses by searching for your journey using the "From" and "To" fields on our start page.

Stockholm Central–Stockholm Södra

Affected line: Stockholm–Eskilstuna–Arboga–Örebro, Stockholm–Nyköping–Linköping och Stockholm–Hallsberg

The railway between stations Stockholm Central and Stockholm Södra are one Sweden's busiest. The Swedish Transport Administration is planning major maintenance work on the stretch to ensure reliable and sustainable train travel.

Scheduled shutdowns:

  • Monday, 25 June – Sunday, 19 August

Regional trains will depart from and arrive at Flemingsberg station instead of Stockholm Central. Passengers from/to Stockholm can travel with commuter trains operated by SL. This requires a valid SL ticket.

Läggesta–Eskilstuna

Affected line: Stockholm–Eskilstuna–Arboga–Örebro

The Swedish Transport Administration is building a new double track between Strängnäs and Härad in order to increase capacity and improve punctuality.

Scheduled shutdowns:

  • Monday, 11 June – Sunday, 17 June

Regional trains will be replaced by bus between Läggesta and Eskilstuna. Travel time will be prolonged by approximately 30 minutes.

In order to make the connection in Läggesta, buses will depart Eskilstuna C earlier than the trains' usual departure time. You will find the timetable for trains and buses by searching for your journey using the "From" and "To" fields on our start page.
